The October 3 DB is colorful and complex. Is there a single simple step?

A Solution: coloring in 9's, but a bit tricky

I can always turn a one-stepper into a five. I used three URs, an XY-Wing with pincer transport and finished with Remote Pairs.

Perhaps, this one can: AUR(12)r79c48 => at least one of [(1)r4c4, (1)r3c8] must be true
(1)r4c4=(1)r3c8-(1=2)r1c9-(2)r1c3=(2)r2c1-(2=69)r4c12 => r4c4<>9

The puzzle can also be solved using the swordfish for 9 in rows 2, 4 and 7:

Code:
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*
 |  67    67    29  |    4     19    8    | 5     3     12   |
 | F29    14    8   |    5     3    F19   | 6     7     124  |
 |  5     14    3   |    7     2     6    | 8     19    149  |
 |------------------+---------------------+------------------|
 | F269  F69    7   | fin19    8    F129  | 3     4     5    |
 |  8     5     29  |    3     4     279  | 17    6     179  |
 |  1     3     4   |    6     5     79   | 2     89    789  |
 |------------------+--------------------+-------------------|
 | F379  F79    5   |    12    6     4    | 17    128   1378 |
 |  4     2     1   |    8     7     3    | 9     5     6    |
 |  37    8     6   |    129   19    5    | 4     12    37   |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*

It eliminates 9 from r56c6.

Put more simply:

r56c6 contains 9 => three 9s must be placed in columns 1 and 2.
