My first "2 and 3/8" steps did the trick.

AIC found, as usual for me, looking for xy-wings:

(4=2)r8c3 - (2=5)r9c2 - r9c1 = r5c1 - (5=2)r5c7 - r46c8 = r9c8 - (2=4)r7c9; r7c3<>4.

This sets up a finned xy-wing with the vertex and fin both being in r4c3.

If the xy-wing 25-7 is true: vertex 25 in r4c3 with pincers 57 in r5c1 and 27 in r7c3 delete 7 in r56c3 and r9c1.

If fin is true: only the 7 in r56c3 is deleted.

Then, transporting (7)r7c3 - r7c5 = (7)r6c5 deletes 7 in r5c4 to complete the puzzle.

Ted

PS: Please note that Marty suggested that transports count as a "3/8" step. |

Best I could do was 4 steps:

xy-wing 527

x-wing 2

kite 3

kite 2

Why the sad face? I see a very nice solution using VH and VH+ techniques.

				Three steps for me:

XY 257

Skyscraper 2 (which knocked out four "2s" -- sweet!)

X 2 |
