I'm unsure whether to restrict posts to registered users only. Only the one hand, it's annoying not knowing which of 5 Guests in a thread has asked a particular question. On the other, posts from newbies get answers on their problems from the good folk who linger here far more quickly than I am able to provide them, and anything that discourages newbies is bad.

I thought it might be a good thing to try out the "poll" feature. If I get it right, you should be able to vote on allowing guests to post or not!

I have to say this is a great site and I really enjoy reading the discussions there's some very helpful people out there.

I don't think people should have to be registered in order to post, but I do wish they would. I like to know what country people live in. It's cool to think that people from all over the world are working on the same puzzle. It makes us realize that we're not much different from people from other cultures. We may look different and speak different languages, but we still like challenging puzzles!

Yesterday, I posted 3 times as a guest and was so amazed at the community feel of the responses from Lulu, Glassman and David Bryant that I felt compelled to register. I suspect that continued support for unrestricted postings will foster accelerated growth of this wonderful community.

I think you should be registered to post, but not to read other people's posts. This allows people to see how fantastic a forum is, and get encouraged to join in with the fun.

The decision to allow posting with or without registration should be made without regard to the threat of offensive posts, IMO. Other sites have the policy to which BlackCat and Glassman refer and while it may discourage offensive posts (a fact that can't really be verified anyway) it does not eliminate them.

It would be nice if guests included a name so one could know to whom to address a reply, as samgj pointed out, but even with registration that is not really a requirement, merely a courtesy that some registrants provide.

My vote is let anyone post, unless/until it becomes some sort of problem that registering will help solve.

I think posters should register first. There is something sinister about an unnamed guest, and I, too, enjoy seeing how far-flung contributors are!

I am listed at several sites with very different subjects.
None of these sites have the possibility to post at a forum if not registered.
You can read but not post.So i would say register if you want to join in conversations

In seeing how welcoming everyone here is to non-registered newbies, I've decided to actually register. This post was a very good idea, and I think seeing how welcoming everyone is to newbs is encouraging.

Well although this site does have quite a few posts having posting open to guests will help increase post count which will in turn increase members as people like to join forums that look more active.....but at the same time having posting only for registered members could increase signups an membership as well.

Unfortunately, the spammers have wrecked the post without registering thing. Sorry and all that, but deleting 30 casino posts a day is getting dull. My continued thanks to all those who make this a welcoming place for newbies to ask their questions, aswell as for informed debate!

I didn't have a view on this until the recent spate of junk posts.

Now I definitely think that the Forum should be restricted to posts from Registered Users. In fact, is there a way that we can make registration more difficult?!

As a new newbie, as of this morning, I vote to register to join a discussion.

I found myself stuck while working the online puzzle this morning and didn't find the answer in the 'help' information. After reviewing the forum questions and answers, I decided to register to ask for help from you. I don't change anything by reading your discussions, but joining in the forum changes the dynamics. I should be held accountable for that change, so registering should be required.

I haven't found an answer to my question: can the puzzle show me where I have messed up? I reached an impasse while working 'today's' puzzle. Do I have to start over or have I just missed a logical 'fix' here?

After browsing through some questions and answesr, I find I have almost NO understanding of what the heck you 'all are talking about! I'm reminding myself that everyone started out as a newbie, but I feel I've wandered into a forum only spoken in French!
