				| Three steps

  	  | Quote: | | MUG349[(8)r6c5 = (2)r6c6]r169c56-r6c1=r4c3-(2=89)r4c79; r6c79<>8
 (3=8)r5c5-MUG349[(8)r6c5 = (2)r6c6]r169c56-(2=3)r5c6; r5c9<>3
(In hindsight, this move is not needed to complete the puzzle, but it was fun to find.)

 Finned x-wing 4 r38c17; r8c3<>4

 Kite 7 hinge box4; r7c9<>7

  	  | Quote: | | kite(4); r8c3<>4 kite(7); r7c9<>7
 kite(8) extended r7c4=r7c9; r4c9<>8
 xy-chain (4=3)r2c9-(3=7)r3c8-(7=2)r7c8-(2=8)r7c4-(8=4)r7c9; r9c8<>4
 xy-wing(289); r8c3<>8

Not sure if all the kites are needed...

Peter, I am the last one to ask about URs, MUGs, DPs, etc; I a trying to learn myself. The last post on this thread is a list offered by Luke.
If you figure things out, please be my mentor.

				| Thanks. I started coming to this forum a few months ago and have learnt a lot from all you guys. It's advanced enough to be challenging but I feel within my reach! I'll follow your link | |

I saw that DP too, Ted. Didn't even find it tiresome....

It's my understanding that this pattern is a Bug-Lite, though. A MUG needs to be the overlay of more than one Bug-Lite, and you haven't got that here. Personally, I call it "The Marty DP."

Like I said last week, I'm thinking about just labeling everything a DP so I don't have to struggle with the nomenclature. Bug-Lites, MUGs and larger than UR DPs are among the most commonly mislabeled patterns on the Sudokuscape, IMO.

Agree on the BUG-Lite term here. Haven't verbalized this before, but (I think) my working definition of the difference between MUG and BUG-Lite is ...

  	  | Code: | | If a uniqueness pattern (UP) contains at least three UP digits (a,b,c ...) and at least one of the UP cells contains three or more UP digits it's a MUG, otherwise it's a BUG-Lite. |
That's a mouthful, but it's not really that hard to apply. BTW a MUG with just one UP cell with three or more UP digits may not actually exist.

May I move into your camp? That will resolve the nomenclature issue so my only remaining DP concern will be determining if the configuration is VALID!
